Education Program

Millions of young boys and girls in West Africa lack access to quality education. In Nigeria alone, over 13 million school-age children are out of school. Poverty and traditional gender biases prevent 65 million girls and young women from attending school, while many others are enrolled but learning very little. Those who do attend often do so at great financial sacrifice, only to find that their job prospects remain unchanged because they lack the soft and technical skills sought by local employers.

 

The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center’s Educational Program supports adolescent girls in rural communities across Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Liberia by providing educational opportunities and leadership development. The program aims to empower girls to become peer-leaders and change agents capable of improving their lives and contributing to a positive, sustainable society that rejects violence. It specifically targets girls at risk of dropping out of school. Over the past six years, our scholarship initiative has helped 5,000 children return to school by covering fees and providing school supplies such as bags and writing materials.
