The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center is pleased to announce its successful participation in the just-concluded 3-Day Safeguarding Foundations Training for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Northern Nigeria. Organized by the Women’s Right and Health Project (WRAHP), this vital capacity-building event took place from Tuesday, May 2, to Thursday, May 4, 2026, at the Elomaz Hotel in Area 11, Garki, Abuja, Nigeria.

The training aimed to strengthen safeguarding practices among CSOs working in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of creating safe environments for vulnerable populations, including women, children, and marginalized groups. As organizations involved in community development and human rights advocacy, safeguarding is crucial to ensure ethical conduct, prevent abuse, and foster trust within their programs. The event brought together representatives from various civil society groups across Northern Nigeria, providing a platform for shared learning, networking, and capacity enhancement.

Over the three days, participants engaged in intensive sessions led by safeguarding experts and practitioners. These sessions covered foundational topics such as developing safeguarding policies, recognizing signs of abuse, responding appropriately to incidents, and fostering organizational cultures that prioritize safety and accountability. Attendees also learned about legal frameworks and ethical responsibilities, equipping them with practical tools to integrate safeguarding measures into their daily operations.

The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center’s involvement demonstrates its commitment to upholding high standards of safety and responsibility in its work. By participating in this training, the Center aims to bolster its internal safeguarding protocols, enhance staff awareness, and ensure its programs operate in a manner that respects and protects the dignity of all beneficiaries. This initiative aligns with the Center’s broader mission of promoting human rights, community development, and social justice, emphasizing that safeguarding is integral to sustainable and ethical community service.

The training also provided valuable opportunities for participants to exchange experiences and challenges faced in safeguarding efforts. Peer learning and networking fostered a collaborative environment, encouraging organizations to adopt best practices and innovative solutions. WRAHP’s efforts to promote a safeguarding culture across Nigerian civil society were further reinforced through this event, highlighting the collective responsibility of organizations to prevent harm and respond effectively to safeguarding concerns.

The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center’s participation in this foundational safeguarding training marks a significant step towards strengthening its capacity to protect and serve communities responsibly. The knowledge and practices gained will be instrumental in ensuring that the Center’s programs are not only effective but also safe and respectful for everyone involved. This engagement underscores the Center’s ongoing dedication to ethical community development and safeguarding as essential pillars of its work in Nigeria.
