On May 8, 2026, The Emmanuel Ivorgba Center in partnership with ACE Support Initiative and Rooted Change proudly hosted an impactful community project dedicated to promoting menstrual and personal hygiene, as part of our VOICE PROGRAM for young girls in Nigeria. Held at the esteemed Creative Minds International Academy in Jos, Plateau State, this event brought together a vibrant mix of mothers, teachers, students, and community leaders—all united by a shared goal to empower girls and improve their well-being.

In Nigeria, menstrual hygiene remains a significant challenge for many young girls, often compounded by cultural stigmas, lack of access to sanitary products, and inadequate awareness. Recognizing these issues, the Emmanuel Ivorgba Center’s community project aimed to address these gaps through education, dialogue, and resource sharing. The event was designed to foster a supportive environment where girls could learn about their bodies, hygiene best practices, and the importance of self-care without shame or embarrassment.

The day commenced with an opening speech from the project coordinator, emphasizing the importance of menstrual health as a fundamental aspect of girls’ overall development. Following this, health professionals and hygiene experts delivered engaging workshops that covered topics such as proper menstrual hygiene management, personal cleanliness, and dispelling myths surrounding menstruation. These sessions aimed to equip young girls with knowledge and confidence, enabling them to manage their health and hygiene effectively. A highlight of the event was the distribution of free sanitary products to the participating girls, ensuring they had access to essential hygiene supplies. This initiative was warmly received, as it addressed a critical need faced by many families due to economic constraints. In addition, informational leaflets and hygiene kits were provided to teachers and parents, encouraging ongoing support and education at home and in schools.

Community leaders and local authorities also participated actively, underscoring the importance of collective responsibility in nurturing a healthy environment for girls. Their presence reinforced the message that menstrual health is not just a personal issue but a community concern that requires collaborative effort. The event also featured motivational talks by successful women from the community, highlighting the importance of education, self-esteem, and resilience. These inspiring stories aimed to motivate the young girls to embrace their femininity confidently and pursue their dreams without hindrance. Parents and teachers expressed appreciation for the initiative, recognizing it as a vital step toward breaking down stigmas and fostering an environment of understanding and support. Many attendees emphasized the need for continued programs like this to sustain awareness and education on menstrual hygiene.

The Community project on menstrual and personal hygiene successfully created a platform for dialogue, learning, and empowerment. It demonstrated that when communities come together with a shared purpose, they can make meaningful strides in improving the health and dignity of their young girls. As the event concluded, plans were set in motion for regular follow-up sessions and the expansion of outreach programs across other schools and communities in Nigeria. The center remains committed to championing women’s health and empowering the next generation to thrive with confidence and dignity. This community project was a shining example of how education and community involvement can transform lives. It is a step forward in fostering a healthier, more aware, and empowered Nigeria—one girl at a time.
